Dear GTF customers,

Due to COVID-19 concerns, CCL no longer have front desk students. If you need to access GTF during business hours, please send your name and ISU ID number to GTF Staff (gtfstaff@iastate.edu). We will request CCL building access for you and you should be able to enter the building using your ISU ID few days after we request access from FPM.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and thank you for your patience during this time!

Ion Torrent™ Proton Sequencer

With the Ion Torrent™ Proton, 200 bp single end sequencing is available. A single P1 chip can provide 80-100 million reads per run in a two day workflow, including templating, sequencing, and data acquisition. We are currently using HiQ Chemistry and have the ability to do 2 runs per day. For more information on this system, visit: http://www.lifetechnologies.com/us/en/home/brands/ion-torrent.html

Illumina MiSeq Sequencer

The Illumina MiSeq can be used to generate up to 15 Gb of output, with 25 million reads per 2x300 bp paired-end sequencing run. The system is ideal for targeted and small genome sequencing. Preparation, Sequencing, and Analysis can be completed in 8-65 hours, depending on the kit used. Automated data analysis and storage are available in the BaseSpace cloud. Visit http://www.illumina.com/systems/miseq.ilmn for more information.

Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer

The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform for sizing, quantification and quality control of DNA, RNA, proteins and cells. Results are delivered within 30-40 minutes in automated, high quality digital data. For more information, visit http://www.genomics.agilent.com/en/Bioanalyzer.

Invitrogen's E-Gel® SizeSelect™ System

E-Gel® SizeSelect™ 2% agarose gels provide a way to purify DNA by loading sample into a top well, and retrieving the DNA bands of interest as they enter a lower well. For more information, visit http://www.lifetechnologies.com/egels.html

Roche Lightcyler 480 RT-PCR System

The Roche LightCycler 480 Real-Time PCR System is a 96 or 384 well qPCR machine for gene-expression and SNP genotyping analysis, with a run time of less than 40 minutes. Multiple excitation (440, 465, 498, 533, 618 nm) and emission (488, 510, 580, 610, 640, 660 nm) filters provide for flexible multiplexing capabilities for various types of probes. For more information, visit http://lifescience.roche.com/shop/en/us/products/lightcycler14301-480-instrument-ii

Stratagene Mx4000 RT-PCR System

Stratagene's Mx4000 multiplex quantitative PCR system offers a large array of excitation (350-750 nm) and detection (350-830 nm) ranges, providing the ability to utilize a wide selection of fluorescent dyes, and generating data useful for all fluorescent QPCR applications. This instrument is capable of reading 4 dyes in 96 wells every 7 seconds. For more information, visit http://www.genomics.agilent.com/.

Sage Science's BluePippin

The BluePippin utilizes pulsed-field electrophoresis to resolve and collect high molecular weight DNA. For more information, visit http://www.sagescience.com/products/bluepippin/.

Qiagen BioSprint 96

The BioSprint 96 provides automated DNA purification of 96 samples in one hour using MagAttract technology. Information about the instrument can be found here. For the Qiagen BioSprint 96 DNA Plant kit, see BioSprint page.

Eppendorf AF2200 Plate Reader

The AF2200 Plate reader offers nucleic acid quantification in a high-throughput format. Quantification can be performed via absorption or fluorescence methods. Absorption measurements in the UV/Vis range can be taken using the Eppendorf µPlate 0.5, with the ability to quantify sample volumes as small as 2 µL in 16 wells simultaneously or a 96-well plate with 100 µL volume. Fluorescence-based assays can be performed in a plate format, and can recognize a large number of dyes (excitation range 230-600 nm; emission range 330-600 nm).
